Hey Duluthians... and everyone else! Did the below zero temperatures get you down this morning? Or maybe you're happy it's a sign that snow is on its way to stay? Well if you are part of the former, let's take a second and enjoy some of these images from Janine and Brian's Glensheen Mansion wedding. It was warmer. Miranda + Michael :: Duluth, MN Engagement Photography

When I first talked to Miranda and Michael, they were on a tight timeline. Michael had to depart for Arizona to go back to school so engagement photos had to happen in short order. Usually that's not an issue. However, when I first talked to them, it was the two weeks before my own wedding (did I mention I'm married now? more on that later) and that is typically the time when you realize everything you thought you had done is only 25% of what you need to have done. In other words, it was a chaotic time.

Enter the sunrise engagement session. All the wedding preparation typically takes place at just about any other time than six in the morning so this worked perfectly. On August 19th, the sun rises at about six in the morning so we made it out there bright and early. Of course it was thunderstorming so the whole warm-glow-of-the-sunrise-photos were out the door. Despite this hiccup, everything went awesome, the sky cleared up 45 minutes after sunrise and we were able to make our way around Park Point, Lester Park and spaces in between. Maybe it's just me, but doesn't Michael look a tad bit like Daniel Tosh? I thought so. I'll end on that note. Congrats Miranda and Michael and see you guys at your wedding next September!

Lake Superior Weddings & Events Magazine Shoot

Being a wedding and editorial photographer, I don't find myself shooting images for magazines very often. In the past year, however, I started working with Bethany Stauber to create some spreads and come up with some images for her new magazine Lake Superior Weddings and Events. This magazine details the must-see places for weddings and events in Duluth, Superior and the North Shore. It's an awesome magazine if you want to check out some of the finer details of numerous venues in northern Minnesota and Wisconsin. If you're getting married, I highly recommend grabbing a copy and looking through it.

For this shoot, we started off at Lester Park on Duluth's east side before moving to the Lake Superior shore near Park Point. We wanted to highlight the natural beauty of Lake Superior and of Duluth so the lake shore and the city's numerous streams and trails seemed like the ideal fit. We couldn't have asked for a better day. The sky cooperated with some sweet clouds. Most importantly, there was NO rain. It was a little windy and got a little chilly as the evening went on, but the models were great and we were able to wrap up the shoot in record time.

A big thanks to Tanya, Krystal and Rachel for volunteering your time to be the magnificent talent, assistants Anna Kunkel and Katlyn Hidebrandt for keeping my lights from toppling over in the wind and to Bethany Stauber for putting together some great bouquets for the girls. Also, thanks to Always and Forever Bridal Emporium in Superior for the dresses and Duo Tones in Duluth who did the hair and makeup. Without you guys, none of this would have been possible.

Rachel + Frank :: Washburn, WI Engagement Photography

This was one engagement session I was looking forward to for a long time. It was my first engagement session outside of Duluth in a long time. I also have known Rachel for a long-time. We're both members of Sparta High School's Class of 2000 meaning we both survived the mean streets of Sparta, WI. We started out on a farm in Washburn, moved to the downtown and then finished up in Ashland. Typically my engagement sessions are a couple hours, but before I knew it, we hit three hours and it was getting super dark. Oooops!! I guess time flies when you're having fun. I'm really looking forward to shooting their wedding back in Sparta this October. Congrats Rachel and Frank and see you in a couple months!!

Kevin + Rachel :: Duluth, MN Engagement Photography

To say it was a little windy the day of Kevin and Rachel's engagement session might be an understatement. It was one of those days when you pull up to the Park Point Beach House and even though you are a good 200 yards from shore, you can hear the waves crashing. After a short time at Park Point, we headed to another of my favorite places to shoot in Lester Park. There, concealed by the trees and rolling hills, the winds were not an issue and we could literally and figuratively let our hair down. Photographing Kevin and Rachel was probably one of the easiest engagement sessions I've done since it didn't take much to get their love to pour out. I'm looking forward to shooting your guys' wedding up at Lutsen in August and best of luck with all the wedding planning in the next couple weeks! Hopefully the weather will be somewhere between what it was on your engagement session day and the recent string of 90+ degree days. Enjoy.
