Best of 2011 Weddings

For many reasons, 2011 will be a year to remember. All the couples I worked with this year were just awesome. I got married. That's some big personal stuff eh? Found out I'm going to be a dad. No big deal right? Below are some of my favorite wedding images from a year where I really started settling into things and where my life and the people around it simply got better and better. Thank-you to all the brides, grooms, wedding parties, families, parents, kids, all of you for being incredible. None of this would have been possible if you didn't allow me to document one of the most memorable days of your lives. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Antonia + Eric :: Two Harbors, MN Wedding Photographer

I spent the final hours of 2011 with Antonia and Eric as they celebrated their wedding at Superior Shores in Two Harbors, Minn. They lucked out with snow showers the day before and the night of so their winter wedding looked a little more like winter. Antonia grew up in Slovakia and they have this tradition where they smash a plate and make the groom clean up the mess. It's supposed to show that the husband is capable of cleaning and Eric shined throughout the cleanup process. They even had him dump what he swept up into a bag with the bottom cut out. You didn't think you were getting off that easy Eric? Ha!

Starting Wednesday evening, I'll be running a couple of best-of blog posts from 2011 so check back for that. Congrats Antonia and Eric!

Stephanie + Paul :: Duluth, MN Wedding Photographer

There are a few things in the photos below that would make you scratch your head if I told you this all happened on December 30th. There's hardly any snow on the ground. There are only small chunks of ice on the shore. The bride is walking along the shore with her bare arms in the elements and icicles are not forming on her exposed skin. There are multiple people without gloves or hats. I could go on and on, but Stephanie and Paul really lucked out on their beach wedding in Duluth. There were no blizzards, there was no this and there was a clear view of Lake Superior when normally there'd be piles of ice as tall as the people attending the ceremony. And thankfully, the beach was awash in white thanks to snow showers the day before that left a couple of inches of snow behind. Congrats Stephanie and Paul!

Kjerstin + Jay :: Lutsen, MN Wedding Photographer

This past weekend I traveled up Minnesota's north shore for Kjerstin and Jay's wedding in Lutsen, Minnesota. As you might guess, it's a little cold this time of the year. While it may have been freezing outside, winter weddings at Lutsen are a unique experience and the scenery is much different than in the summer. The white snow blanketing the beach, the ice on the rocks and the cold-weather attire of the wedding party are all part of the experience. A big thanks to Kjerstin's sister Britta for literally climbing trees to help with the dress shot and to the entire wedding party and family for being so welcoming and awesome. I had a great time and wish you guys the best in the future!
